Annual camp out

We camped last weekend at Jason’s parents’ place. They invite family and friends to park their campers and pitch their tents on their property. It’s a great time. Also, Jason’s grandma makes the best hotdish EVER.

Jason’s parents go all out with this annual camp out - they have an inflatable bounce house and waterslide for the kids, and they even make their own badges. Hee.

I made corn on the cob cupcakes for Jason’s mom’s birthday. So fun. Although I had to go to FOUR places to find the corn skewers. Apparently, Target does not think it’s cool to sell skewers in the shape of corncobs. That is the WHOLE POINT of eating corn, Target.

Jason’s mom has a hummingbird feeder. When we were first over there, something buzzed my head and I thought she said, “Oh, a honey bee.” No, a hummingbird. They didn’t even care that we were standing right there. Instead, they preferred to zip and flit around, making teeny Yamaha-motor noises.

This was my favorite part of the weekend. Standing there openmouthed with Jason, grinning like kids whenever one would swoop down to the feeder. I replicated the nectar recipe (one part sugar, 4 parts water) with our feeder and do we have hummingbirds yet? No. NO, WE DO NOT.

It rained off and on, but that was OK, because 1) we desperately needed it, 2) Jason and I watched some lightning clouds move across the night sky while holding hands and 3) rainbows.

Note that I am wearing a sweatshirt. Hello, nearly August weather! You disappoint me. But this weekend we’re going camping again and it’s supposed to be 85. IT BETTER BE.
